preposterous bullies

The allotment is full of preposterous squashes. They swoop from stem to stern like outrageous and malformed question marks, crying, "When is the last time you were upside down?" and, "You think you're flying on your bicycle? What do you know!" I was supposed to catch these entities while they were flowers, slipping pieces of cheese in their caverns, folding them into parcels and dipping them in batter then sizzling them in olive oil. But what did I do? I went to the ocean and sank in sand and wave, and allowed these monsters to bulge. How they bully me from their muscular stems under the steeple with its round top in the pinky-orange clouds.

a request
Dear Kathleen,

Your blog writing style is beautiful - a pleasure to read. I actually did a google search to try to find a way to contact you, and found this livejournal. I'm a Lecturer in Creative Writing at Victoria University, Australia. I'm writing a research paper for an international refereed journal on contemporary mainstream depictions of intersex characters in novels, film and television. I wrote my PhD on the medical management of intersex births, and an accompanying creative work. I'd like to include your novel 'Annabel' in the paper I'm writing. I read about it recently online and tried to find it in Australia (then I realised it's not available here yet). I ordered it on Canadian Amazon three days ago, and paid a lot to get it posted quickly because my paper is due on August 16. However, they haven't even shipped it yet, so I'm concerned that it won't reach me in time. If you don't mind, could you please email me at jenny.lee@vu.edu.au to discuss potential ways I could get hold of your novel more quickly?

All the best
Jenny
