I have two new garments to show off today. The first is a hat I bought at my favourite trimmings store in Montreal’s fabric district. I’d received an invitation to a fundraising dinner, asking me to enliven the conversation at the table, so I thought I’d better find something enlivening to wear in case I feel all writerly and introverted that night. In a back corner stood the hat I have painted below. When I asked the shopkeeper for an explanation she said it had just come from Lebanon. The only similar hat I could find online belonged to a 19th century Lebanese princess.
Because of my new regime at the Y (see yesterday) I needed another garment: a pair of sweatpants. I passed a sidewalk sale with pants that appeared perfect until I checked the back. When I see people on the street with writing emblazoned on the seat of their pants, I want to scream NO! I have to restrain myself from becoming the Garment Police and hauling the offenders to Bad Taste County Jail. But today, day 22 in my year of daily doing something I’ve never done before, guess whose derriere now sports the word ATHLETIC between two hot pink hearts. Dare I post a photo?
