On the Papineau bus with Leo I noticed he had super patches sewn on his jeans.
"Man, who sewed them on for you?"
"My dad sewed those patches. He sews the new part on the inside of the hole. When my mom sews patches she covers the outside of the hole."
"Those are beautiful."
I thought, that's just the way his dad writes, too. Leave evidence of lovely old threadbare things. Show beautiful edges all frayed. Carefully handstitch a frame of reference in a rough circle that you don't try to hide. Put some strong, new backing in there to make the thing last. Give it to the world to run with.
