Two things on day 49 in my year of daily newness: got my first ever cheque from the Public Lending Rights Commission. This is the writers' payback for all those dear readers who go to the library and borrow our books instead of buying them. Authors have to register, and after years of reminders from my fab brother I finally filled out those forms six months ago, and he was right – it is more than a dinner for two at a nice restaurant. Thanks, buddy.
The second new thing is that after weeks of doing my new workout at the Y, I’m making a playlist, only to ask what in the name of sweet bench presses I’m doing with all this maudlin, hurtin’, slow old-time wailing and hollering interspersed with Yo Yo Ma. Come on girl! It’s time to get upbeat! Back to iTunes for some Noisettes and Bowie. (Emmy Lou, McGarrigles, Maddy Prior, I love you, but you're no use to me at the gym.)
