The Same Strange Blindness

I have the same strange blindness evident all over, whereby we go on with our shopping bags, our cups of tea and our daily trivialities, while deep injury afflicts a part of the world we call far away, though we all no there is no such thing as far away any more, and perhaps there never was. It rained in Montreal today and I put up a black umbrella the way people have done since umbrellas were invented hundreds or even thousands of years ago. It rained in Japan as well, and we all watched as the government there failed to warn people not to use the rainfall as drinking water in case it had become contaminated by radiation from the self-destructing nuclear reactors. We turn our attention to crises then back to our lives, which seem unaffected but of course are not unaffected at all. The only question is, when will we awaken, When will we awaken to the fact that there is no far away, no other side of the world, no danger zone that is not our own land to heal and protect. In this, day 75 in my year of daily new actions, I stopped believing that there is any atom of this earth that is not part of my own body.

I am deeply resentful of your liberal use of "we".
