In the Quiet Shadows

The new things I did on days 122 and 123 aren't really that important, compared with the old things: listening to the beauty of the sound of the rain, reading The Master by Colm Toibin, and returning, raindrop by raindrop and word by mellifluous word, to sanity, after what seems like a year of sheer craziness brought on by the book world. Annabel has opened my eyes to a lot of things I didn't know about before, and its success has opened doors and given me income that will let me write my next book with greater freedom, but it has also changed my relationship with my world in ways I'm not so sure I like. Today I listened to the rain and let it knock on the door of my heart the way it always did, and I read the quiet, sedate and soul-close words of Toibin and remembered part of my way back down the path to my old self, the one that just quietly is. I look at my cat these days, sleeping on the chair, and I love the shape of that cat's ears and paws.  I think I'll stay here awhile, in the quiet shadows.

Toibin and your graceful cat seem excellent beacons to regaining quietude. Keep well, my friend. xaz
